Obituary

David Welch Workman
Born July 31, 1947 at Swedish Hospital, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Passed away on February 17, 2019 of complications from Adenocarcinoma after a short illness.
Youngest son of parents Henry and Mildred Workman.
Resident of Chanhassen, Minnesota. Raised in Shakopee and Deephaven, Graduating in 1966 from Minnetonka High School. In recent years, he enjoyed reconnecting with Minnetonka High School classmates even helping to coordinate the Class of 1966 50th reunion.
Enlisting for a tour in the US Navy as an Aviation Electronics Technician, he served on the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk, a time he recalls fondly and with patriotic pride as a member of the American Legion (Chanhassen Post 580).
For thirty-one years he took great pride in his work at Char-Lynn/Eaton which he carried out with his characteristic sense of humor, feeling success if he left others with a smile, as a result, his retirement was attended by coworkers from as far away as Ireland.
He had fun gardening, especially his Hostas, sharing many with neighbors.
Enjoying keeping up with a wide range of Minnesota sports teams he could often be found tuning in to local High School, College, and Pro Sports.
He was a big man with a big heart for his family.
A lifetime bachelor, however David was not alone. He expressed that although he didn’t have a wife and children of his own, that he felt a part of his purpose was to provide help and “safe harbor” to his family. And he truly was an anchor throughout his life helping each member of his immediate family in turn when needed. He shared his heart, love, and life lessons hoping to mentor and provide a stable opportunity in doing so.
Possessing a wry sense of humor, he nonetheless enjoyed a good laugh.
He could seem bearish, but that would soon become more like a teddy bear if you knew him.
So it came as no surprise when he adopted a rescue dog (now 19 years old) with a similar disposition as a companion.
As his life became more limited, he was able to benefit from the kindness of family, friends, and caregivers to help him continue to enjoy his home. He was both surprised and appreciative when that help was offered and his family is thankful as well.
He is loved by his family and will be truly missed.
He is survived by his sister Susan Niccum, brother Stephen Workman, nephew Gunny Murins, niece Amy Sciarra, great nephews Travis and Alex, and several cousins.
David’s ashes will be interred at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in a private ceremony.

My sympathies to the family of David Workman. As a member of the class of 1966, I appreciated all his work in making our 50th reunion so much fun. He is remembered fondly by many of his classmates.
