Obituary

Matthew Richard “Dick” Walsh 85 passed away in his sleep at home on Thursday May 9, 2019 in Shorewood Minnesota. He was born March 6, 1934 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Matthew and Irma Walsh. He was married to Donna Marie Lambrecht.
Survivors include his brother Bill and family, and his children Sandy, Liz, Shayla, Pat, Laurie, Peggy, Cheryl and Steve as well as Sister-in-law Pat Struck, Brother- in-law John Struck, and his best friend Jeff Borneman, all from the greater Twin Cities Metro area. Many grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as other relatives and friends are acknowledged here as well.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, mother and father-in-law Alvie and Ray Struck, brother Shelly, sister Betty, son Bobby and former wife Gloria.
A time of gathering will be held on Thursday May 16 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at the Grace Lutheran Church 18360 Minnetonka Blvd in Deephaven, Minnesota. Online Condolences can be left on Dick Walsh’s Memorial Tribute site at www.huberfunerals.com
Dick Walsh grew up loving sports and especially competition. In his youth, he participated in youth boxing and later Washburn High School Football and Track lettering in both sports. He played both guard and linebacker at a dripping wet 145 pounds. In track, he ran the quarter mile, 880 relay and was a long jumper. When his older brother bought him a set of golf clubs he discovered the sporting love of his life, GOLF. He honed his skills and particularly his short game at the Minneapolis Public golf courses. In later life, he loved his golf trips to Destin Florida, Brainerd Minnesota and Spooner Wisconsin with his brother and friends. Ever the competitor, Dick was never a sore loser but rather wanted to continue playing golf or cards until he was declared the winner.
Dick had a long and successful marriage to Donna. He made her happiness his main concern. He did an amazing job of caring for her as her health was failing. To be sure, she was the love of his life.
In his final years he continued to enjoy life including time spent with children, friends and relatives as well as playing golf and cribbage. He also greatly enjoyed participating in his church Grief Support group.
Mostly, he will be remembered for his good company, quick wit, generosity and his never ending efforts to remain on good terms with relatives and friends. He will only be missed every day of the week that ends in the letter Y.

Old Irish Blessing

May the roads rise
to meet you,

May the winds be always
be at your back,

May the sun shine warm
upon your face,

The rains fall soft
upon your fields,

And until we meet again,

May God hold you in the hollow
of his hand.
