Upon graduation from Iowa State University he went on to serve in the USMC (1953-1955) where he achieved the rank of Captain. From earning Eagle Scout in his youth and continuing throughout his life he accepted the calls to lead and serve; Rotary President, Mayor of Shorewood, member of the Hennepin County Welfare Board, Youth Hockey Coach, and West Metro political party chair. Bob has been recognized as WCCO's Person of the Week and Excelsior's Person of the Year. His volunteer work also included gardening at the MN Landscape Arboretum for almost 20 years. Both the Basilica of St. Mary and Trinity Episcopal Church held special places in his life. Bob was an avid reader, a crossword puzzler, an outdoorsman, a sportsman, a storyteller extraordinaire, a baker and a cook. Whatever the endeavor he took it all the way. This was best seen in his unwavering and unconditional loyalty and love for his family and his friends. To the marine, the husband, the son, the grandpa, the father, the friend and the mentor, thank you for showing us what it means to love so deeply.
