Obituary

DuWayne Allen Oney
DuWayne Oney, age 71, of Medina, MN died on July 2, 2019 peacefully following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
DuWayne graduated from Mankato High School in 1966. Following graduation, he started his lengthy career with AT&T as a lineman, computer operations and computer programmer. He also served in the Army Reserve for 6 years as a radio repairman.
DuWayne was able to retire early and enjoyed many hobbies such as: home projects, woodworking, jewelry making, ballroom/salsa dancing, flying and restoring and modifying classic cars. Those who knew DuWayne would say he was a perfectionist with every project he took on. Although he complained about the high taxes and cold winters, he made Minnesota his home. He enjoyed getting out of the cold and would spend many winters in Cozumel, Mexico.
DuWayne was a loving father, life partner to Marilyn, grandfather, brother and friend. Survivors include his son, Ryan Oney (Lacey) and grandsons Braydon and Jackson, Marilyn Nygard, her daughters Dawn and Dana (Justin), granddaughter Makena, his brother Jeffrey (Chrisanne) Oney, former wife Mary Riley Oney, and many nephews, nieces and cousins. DuWayne was proceeded in death by his daughter Heather Oney and parents Ivan and Evelyn Oney.
DuWayne will be laid to rest at the Byron Cemetery alongside his daughter Heather.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare, 200 University Avenue East, Saint Paul, MN 55101

Prayers are with everyone. I remember being his neighbor in Byron and yes, perfectionist was a good word to use. He did take great pride in the work he did. Rest in peace now Du.
